Breakfast!

Breakfast!

Pineapple and Papaya with grated ginger and turmeric.
This is day one of my anti inflammatory eating plan.
No coffee today…noooooo! But I did have a dandelion root tea, and I like it! It kind of reminds me of coffee. I had it black, without sweetener/sugar, and it was quite nice..yay!
Woke up today and my CTS pain was at about a 6.5 – it usually gets to a 9 by the end of the day, so hoping it decreases with an anti inflammatory diet.

A dandy alternative to coffee!

So, tomorrow I am going to take a break from my beloved coffee, in order to soothe my CTS (Carpal Tunnel Syndrome). I’m going to give dandelion root tea a try because I’ve read that its a great coffee alternative, and has heaps of health benefits.

Some benefits include:

-It’s a mild anti inflammatory

-It improves bile production, so it’s good for the liver, and for digestion

-It has antioxidant properties, so it’s great for your skin

-Caffeine free

There are lots more benefits, which can be found here : http://www.dandeliontea.org/dandelion-tea/facts-about-dandelion-tea-benefits

I’m going to attempt to drink my dandy tea black and unsweetened..I’ll let you know how that goes!  But as for today, it’s Sunday and I am off to the market shortly to get all my supplies and to have my last heavenly milky latte..mmmmm!

Carpal Tunnel and Me

Hi, I’m Bec and I’ve decided I want a space to document my journey trying to soothe my Carpal tunnel naturally. I’ve had Carpal Tunnel for three years now.

It started off with tingly, pins and needles feelings in my hands, and the feeling of numbness during the night. It seemed to get worse very quickly, my job, waitressing, was probably contributing to that. By the end of my long days at work, I could barely turn my door handle to when I got home.

I headed off to my local GP, who confirmed, that yes, I did have Carpal Tunnel, and to start wearing a wrist splint at night, and to ice my wrists after work. I went home and did all of these things, and also had a two week break from work.

My symptoms got  little better, but for the next year and a half, I was having trouble sleeping as the numbness would wake me up.

I tried acupuncture, which provided a ton of relief, and things became a lot more bearable.

I then fell pregnant  and from about twenty weeks, the Carpal Tunnel Syndrome was back with a vengeance! I started to get acupuncture weekly, as relief would last a few days. Nearing the end of my pregnancy, I was getting acupuncture 2-3 times a week, as relief wouldn’t last very long.

When my baby was born, I felt immediate relief from the Carpal Tunnel Syndrome — Thank God! I don’t think I could’ve handled that, along with sleep deprivation and adjusting to breastfeeding!

I went back to work when my little one was 5 months old, and the Carpal Tunnel came back. Back for acupuncture I went, but this time,  it doesn’t seem to provide any relief.

Fast forward to now, and my little baby is 11 months old, and my Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is so painful, that it’s making it hard to function. It’s hard to sleep, prepare meals, and look after bub. I’m currently not getting regular acupuncture because I don’t have the money or the time.

I’ve googled the life out of everything Carpal Tunnel, searching for natural cures, because I don’t want to rush straight into surgery. I’ve looked up dietary and supplement advice, and from this I have decided to go on a Carpal Tunnel diet.

It’s Friday today, and starting Monday, I am going to start this diet. Over the weekend I am going to plan the things I am going to eat, then head to the local farmers market to stock up on supplies for the week.

I’m planning on documenting my daily food/drink/supplement intake, and then reflect on any changes.

I think the biggest challenge will be cutting out caffeine, as coffee is my best friend, and I work in a coffee shop! Temptation!!

I’m also thinking of doing some light yoga to see if that will help too.

I figure i have nothing to lose, so let’s go!
